Preferred Radiology Program
The Preferred Radiology Program (PRP) recognizes providers with advanced imaging services in their office and/or free-standing imaging facilities that have accreditation through American College of Radiology (ACR), Intersocietal Accreditation (IAC) or RadSite. PRP participants receive increased reimbursement for PET, CT, CTA and MRI and MRA. Go to Equipment Standards for Participation.
Credentialing New PRP Locations
Prior to filling out and submitting the facility application forms below, the reading radiologists must be credentialed for our Preferred Medical Doctor Network or have active location numbers. The items include:
- Preferred Radiology Credentialing Verification form (with all requested attachments)
- Physicians Interpreting Imaging Services under this Tax ID (at this specific location)
- List of Referring Physicians with a Financial Interest (at this specific location)
- List of NON-PHYSICIANS with a Financial Interest (at this specific location)
Note: When a new PRP location application is approved, our Legal Department will mail a Preferred Radiology Service Agreement to the address on the application that will need to be signed and returned. A copy of the executed contract will be mailed back to the PRP location.
Adding Reading Providers to Existing PRP Locations
Note: Blue Cross will not backdate PRP status or reprocess claims if the practice fails to submit the new physician notification form in a timely manner.
PRP Credentialing Reports
There are reports on ProviderAccess that identify PRP providers in your practice.
Preferred Radiology Program Providers: This report shows active PRP providers with certification(s) due to expire within six months. The report also shows active provider locations and provider locations that have been temporarily suspended due to no claims activity under a specific PRP-flagged group.
Credentialing Reminders
- PRP Participating status is site specific.
- It is your responsibility to make sure your assigned numbers stay active so that PRP status remains in place.
- You must provide updated certifications to us. Please do not allow your accreditation to expire or lapse as this could impact claims payment.
- Only physicians are eligible to participate in the Blue Cross Preferred Radiology Program.
- Blue Advantage® allows for physicians and specialties.
